It was the onset of monsoons as Roy sat and looked at the black clouds and the raging sea,on any other day he would have ran out with his camera towards it like a kid running towards her mother, but not today he just closed his eyes and felt the breeze that blew across his face.
Roy had a life which was just perfect,he had a job in one of the most sought after corporate giants of the country,a 7 pack salary,a living place in one the posh suburbs of Kolkata ,a loving wife and a daughter who is his sunshine.Apart from this Roy had a passion of capturing the nature in its wild form,he loved clicking pics of storms, flooding rivers, anything and everything that complimented his passion. He even had a album under the title"storm chasers"just to show off his clicking skills. It contained his captures ,the days when he used to chase storms with his friends in the states while doing his masters.
They say "Life is a riddle in itself,we never cease to understand it and always look out for the best and try to face the challenges with courage and belief that we will succeed and we do but for the larger part it takes the better of us".Roy would have never thought that his fling with nature would cost him so dearly.
Monsoons were fun for Roy as he would get the chance to date nature and follow his passion,Roy's wife enjoyed what he did and loved being a part of it so was his little daughter. In the monsoons of 2010 Roy with his family was out in the Sunderbans to click the flooded delta and the swelling rivers when disaster struck, the boat got hit by a tree and overturned plunging the whole family into the open water. The rivers had made the delta look like "Scylla" ready to take down everybody in its path.Roy clung to a piece of wood from the remains of the boat and tried to swim towards his wife but he couldn't, his legs didn't respond and in a blink he could see her desperately trying to reach out as the monster swallowed her and she was gone,he tried to look out for his daughter but the legs were just stationary ,he shouted for help but his voice never reached and finally he lost consciousness. He woke up in a hospital bed and tried to move out as if he was still trying to save his wife but he couldn't and realized that his legs had been amputated, but in all of this there was some good news his daughter was alive and doing well(thanks to the boat driver).
Days passed and things turned ,they shifted out to Mumbai were Roy's elder sister looked after them and Roy's daughter grew up and it was his daughter whose presence gave Roy the hope to carry on in spite of the disability to move.
A sudden tap on the shoulder and Roy opened his eyes to see his daughter with a camera asking him"Dad can I go out and click some photographs of the sea?".Roy just looked at her and smiled.
